Teaching Procedures:

Step 1Warming-up

Invite some students share their experiences of traveling. Then give them a question. What king of natural landscape is most amazing and unforgettable. We may get the answer of Changbai mountain,jiuzhaigou valley ect. So lead in the new lesson famous wonders in America.

Step 2 Pre-reading

Think of any wonders of the world, such as buildings, mountains, rivers, seas, towers, waterfalls and etc, then describe it.

Step 3 While-reading

Read the passage and describe what you can see in the photo. Work in pairs.Try to describe what you see in the photo by using the words below.

Ancient ,deep ,high ,long

Read the passage again and try to fill the form with the facts about the Grand Canyon

Explain the important and difficult points.such as:the sun rode behind me and beyond the rocks. I saw that the ground fell away and down to a river,far below me.

Step 4 Post-reading

After reading the passage and match the words in the box with their meaning.

Step 5 Summary and homework

Image they have to the west lack. Write sentences describing how they felt when they saw it for the first time.
